Note how, from the spring of 1679, when the Dauphin's musicians are first mentioned in the Mélanges, there is a sudden burst of the purple highlighting that suggests compositions written for the royal court. (This highlighting becomes especially marked in the charts for the early 1680s.)

 

January 5 Mme de Guise is in Paris for a few days.

February 3 Mme de Guise is back at the Luxembourg and goes on retreat for a few days.
February Signature of peace treaty with Spain.
February 24 Mme de Guise is in Paris and is entertaining frequently.
March 3 Sung mass at abbey of Charonne in memory of Gaston d'Orléans.
March 20 Pinon du Martroy, a relative of the Guise Charpentiers and a correspondent of the rich Charpentiers of Meaux, is implicated in the Poison Affair.
Spring Earliest mention of the Dauphin's musicians, the Pièches, in Charpentier's notebooks.
March 3-April 7 Mme de Guise is at court.
April 16 Roquette of Autun presides over Mme de Longueville's funeral at the Great Carmel.

June Sacre of Noailles, Sevin's successor to the bishopric of Cahors, at the abbaye of Saint Antoine.
June 9 Revival of Le Sicilien with music by Charpentier.
June 21 Roquette, bishop of Autun, receives his pallium at the Great Carmel.
July 11 Revival of Le Dépit amoureux with music by Charpentier.
Summer The Poison Affair leads to numerous executions.
August 25  St Louis's Day: Pierre Le Brun offers the king a sung mass, with a "symphonie" by Charpentier.
September Monsieur's daughter marries king of Spain by proxy. Festivities at Fontainebleau.
October 7 François Chaperon is named music master of Sainte-Chapelle.
October Arrests in Poison Affair now are being made in the Le Ragois milieu.
October 17 Revival of L'Inconnu: Charpentier adapts music he had composed in 1678 for Riants.
December 10 Mme de Guise is at court.
December The king has asked Lorenzani to go to Italy and find five castrati.
