Guise Activities, 1682

Return to list of activities, year by year

The courtly events highlighted in purple correspond to pieces in Charpentier's notebooks. Note: after the fall of 1682, when the Abbess of Montmartre became ill and died, Charpentier composed few pieces for Montmartre.

January 1 The Dauphin is inducted into the Order of the Holy Spirit. The music for the mass is by Charpentier.
March 27 High Easter mass and musical vespers at the chapel of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
April 20-May 6 Lavish fete at Saint-Cloud during which the Dauphin's Music plays Charpentier's music.
May 28-June 4 Corpus Christi processions at Versailles, with a reposoir in the new chapel.
July 6 Mme de Guise attends vespers at Saint-Sulpice.
July 10 Mme de Guise is at Versailles, where everyone is awaiting the birth a prince or princess.
July 17 First performance of Andromède with music by Charpentier.
August 6 Birth of the Duke of Burgundy, the Dauphin's first son: a Te Deum is sung in the royal chapel of Versailles.
August 13 Mme de Guise has fireworks shot off at the Luxembourg in honor of the Duke of Burgundy and invites her friends to a musical entertainment. Mlle de Guise does the same at the Hotel de Guise.
August 22 To celebrate Burgundy's birth, the Mercy hires the royal musicians, and a Te Deum is sung in Mlle de Guise's presence.
August 24 Mme de Guise returns to Paris from the court (which explains why she was not mentioned as present at the Te Deum at the Mercy).
Early September Mme de Guise is preparing to return to court.
October Mme de Montmartre falls ill.
October Louis XIV invents the "Fete des appartements" at Versailles.
December 4 Death of Mme de Montmartre.
December 24 Monsieur and Madame attend Christmas service at the Theatines.
