A contemporary engraving and map of the Cour du Palais

The Cour du Palais as seen from the entryway adjacent to the Chapel of Saint-Michel

The ornate structure in the center of the engraving is the Cour des Comptes, with its monumental arcaded staircase. Part of the Sainte-Chapelle can be seen at the right. The choir school's roof is concealed by the staircase leading to the upper chapel. (Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and her husband lived in one of the shadowed structures at the left.)

in the rear: the choir school

A map of the Cour du Palais:

map of the courtyard of the "Palais"

The apartment of the music master and choirboys was immediately below the Chambre des Comptes. Charpentier was buried in the cemetery just behind the apse of the Sainte-Chapelle, which was separated from the Cour du Palais ou du May by a ring of shops. (AN, Q1* 10991 66vo)
