"French" cahiers for 1680

I will repeat my opening sentences for 1679, modifying them slightly: Charpentier's French notebooks for this year show him composing for the Dauphin during the spring months (doubtlessly another "gift" from Mme de Guise to her cousin) for the Mercy in August (surely in order to please Mlle de Guise).

In addition, he wrote some pieces (one of them with a counter tenor: hc) for Mlle de Guise's visit to the Virgin's shrine at Liesse, and an oratorio for Mme de Guise's confraternity of St Charles Borromeo. The final months of the year saw him writing a piece celebrating the recovery of the Dauphin, performed by the Dauphin's musicians ... and therefore presumably written for Mme de Guise for performance at court.

He also wrote his famous Tenebrae music for Holy Week at the Abbaye-aux-Bois.

All in all, 1680 was a very productive year for him: he filled 8 notebooks for the Guises alone!
