"Taking off the Toga" was written in the winter of 2010-2011. Its several parts that center on Jacques-Auguste de Thou, serve as a preface to "La Divinité (ou la non-Divinité) du roi Henri IV," which has been submitted as a chapter in a volume of mélanges that will honor Professor Gérard Sabatier of the University of Grenoble.
